Basic Information on North Korea
North Korea is located near Russia and China, sharing a border with both to the north. North Korea also shares a border with South Korea, which is called the DMZ or the Demilitarized Zone. This strip of land serves as a barrier between the two countries and is considered the most hostile and heavily armed border in the world. Both the Korean armies line this border and watch for attacks or escapees day and night. The government is documented as an authoritarian regime, meaning that the government and it's people follow one authority figure without question. North Korea holds approximately 24.76 million people and all of them follow this central leader which, at the moment, is Kim Jong-Un.
The climate in North Korea has four seasons as in Iowa. The winters are a little harsher than most, especially in the high altitude, mountainous regions. Summers are short, humid, and rainy because of the moist air brought in from the Pacific Ocean. These somewhat harsh weather conditions don't provide a great environment for ending the famine and starvation that runs rampant in North Korea.
